STATS, COMBAT, AND ADVENTURING
Sagesteppe runs a simple and easy to learn stat system that's primarily utilized during staff-run Adventures and certain events. Your stat sheet will be created and maintained by staff so there's no need to worry about formatting them yourself. They'll be created for you when your character gets accepted to the group! Your only responsibility will be keeping your stat sheet handy during encounters, adventures or relevant events so you have access to your bonuses.
What are Encounters and Adventures? How do they work?
Encounters and Adventures are staff-run roleplays that will utilize your character's stats and allow for more personalized events within the world! Rather than long-form, multi-paragraph replies, replies during these encounters are meant to be one to two sentences to move the game along. If you're familiar with tabletop games, it's basically the same!
Encounters take place randomly during roleplays, and are opt-in. If you indicate that your thread is open to encounters, a member of staff may initiate an NPC encounter, combat, plot hints, or something else! Once your encounter is over, your roleplay can pick up like normal from where your encounter left off and it can be submitted for clovers like normal.
Adventures are longer and typically take place somewhere outside of the territories. These are usually plot-relevant in some way and have the chance to make lasting changes on the world and the cats in it, though some may just be for fun! Staff will make an announcement in discord with a brief Adventure set-up and a sign-up including any requirements like clan, rank or age. Once an Adventure starts, you'll be granted access to two private threads. One for OOC and one for IC. While these threads will be private during the adventure, the IC one will be made public and archived once the Adventure wraps up. While you may still roleplay in private roleplay threads that have already been started, you may not start new threads with your Adventuring character! If you have no other cats in their clan, you will also be restricted from seeing or participating in public roleplay channels and daily antics.
Setting up your Starting Stats
The stat sheet will be assembled for you by a staff member, but you still get to decide your character's stats! When you open your Character Submission Ticket, you'll be prompted to fill in their starting stat allocations.
You may allocate points into Dexterity, Constitution, Perception, Intelligence, Spirit, and Damage.
All your stats start at 1, and...
➤ Kits start with +1 stat point to allocate anywhere. You will have a total of 8 stat points.
➤ Apprentices get an additional +2 stat points to allocate anywhere. You will have a total of 10 stat points.
➤ Warriors get an additional +2 stat points to allocate anywhere. You will have a total of 12 stat points.
(These are also granted upon rank-up and do stack. For example, Warriors start with a total of +5 stat points totaling 12 altogether.)
➤ Deputies get +1 stat point to allocate anywhere. You will have a total of 13 stat points.
➤ Leaders get +2 stat points to allocate anywhere. You will have a total of 15 stat points.
(These also stack! A character starting out as leader would have +5 stat points from the warrior bonus, +1 from deputy and +2 from leader, for a total of +8!)
➤ Healer Apprentices get +1 stat point to Spirit and +2 stat points to allocate anywhere. You will have a total of 11 stat points.
➤ Healers get +1 stat points to Spirit and +2 stat point to allocate anywhere. You will have a total of 14 stat points.
(This also stacks! A character starting out as healer would have +2 stat points to spirit and +4 stat points to allocate anywhere.)
Each clan also has an additional proficiency that grants them +1 in specific stats.
➤ GiliaClan cats get +1 to Constitution.
➤ CamasClan cats get +1 to Spirit.
➤ SpurClan cats get +1 to Dexterity.
➤ Wanderers get +1 to Perception.
These additional stat points do not get taken away if/when a character retires or is removed from their position.
Additionally, your HP is your CON x 5, and your Armor Class is your DEX + 10.
Stat Sheet
This is an example of a stat sheet. Within it, you'll find your characters name, a headshot (must be provided by you or will be taken from your character application), your characters HP and AC, 6 stat boxes, available skills, gear, inventory, status effects and any relevant notes. All of this will be filled out and maintained by Sagesteppe staff, though you will need to keep your Character Sheet link handy anytime you're in an adventure or encounter.
HP and AC: These are modified directly by your Constitution and Dexterity, respectively. Your HP (Hit Points) represents the amount of Damage you can take before being Knocked Out. AC is your Armor Class- when someone rolls to hit you, they need to roll higher than this number.
Stat Boxes: These are your stats that you'll use frequently during adventures and encounters. A full list of stat descriptions is available below. The number below each stat name is your current stat level and modifier. When asked to roll for a stat, you'll always roll 1d20 + modifier. So, for example, if Cindermask were asked to roll for perception, he would roll 1d20 +1. To roll in discord, he would type "!roll 1d20+1". The staff member running the adventure or encounter would then let him know what happened, based on his roll.
Skills: All characters start with Bite and Claws and Rest. The first two being attacks, the second being a way to heal oneself. More skills may be added later. Healers start with fourth skill: Heal.
Gear: Currently unavailable.
Status Effects: These are ongoing conditions that are affecting your character, such as Bleed.
Notes: This is where staff will add any information they feel relevant during Adventures and Encounters for their own and your reference.
